GlaxoSmithKline
GlaxoSmithKline’s philanthropic mission is to make a positive contribution to the communities in which we operate and to invest in health and education programs and partnerships that aim to bring sustainable improvements to under-served people in the developed and developing world.
In the United States GSK provides volunteers, cash grants, medicines, and in-kind contributions to nonprofit organizations to help improve health and education in under-served communities. They focus on programs that are innovative, sustainable, and bring real benefits to those most in need.
Volunteerism GSK’s mission of helping people to do more, feel better and live longer can be achieved not just through medicines, vaccines and consumer products but also through community involvement. GSK employees have been volunteering in the community for decades in the areas of education, health, arts, environment, and civic engagement. GSK has three very strong volunteer-related programs:
-
GIVE is GlaxoSmithKline's Investment in Volunteer Excellence. When employees and/or their spouses/domestic partners volunteer with their favorite nonprofit organizations, GSK awards $500 to the nonprofit for 50 or more hours of volunteerism.
-
PULSE enables up to 100 employees annually to volunteer with nonprofit or philanthropic organizations. Employees use their professional skills and knowledge during a 3-6 month immersion experience, empowering them to make a significant difference in impoverished communities, at home or abroad.
-
ORANGE DAY allows each employee world-wide to spend one work day volunteering in their local community. Employees in the U.S. volunteer in a variety of ways and in a variety of places: tutoring in schools, providing meals to homeless or the sick, building homes, working on walking trails, etc. GSK looks at this as a way to get employees jumpstarted in their interest in long-term volunteerism. |

The Jim Fassel Foundation
The Jim Fassel Foundation was formed November 13, 2001 to assist the families in the New York Metro area whose lives have been impacted by sudden, unexpected tragedy or illness.
The Foundation will focus a majority of its efforts to those individuals and families that have been impacted by the September 11th World Trade Center tragedy in New York City.
The goal of the Jim Fassel Foundation is to build a fund that these families, who will undoubtedly have special needs, can use as a resource in the years ahead. The Jim Fassel Foundation will be a place that these families could turn to in a time of need, a place that will provide relief with a minimal amount of red tape and bureaucracy.
